HOVAK – Social and Environmental Innovative Technologies Development NGO

HOVAK is an Armenian non-profit engineering organization. We turn strong ideas into working things — moving from concept and research through feasibility studies and prototyping to pilot-ready implementation.

We combine engineering, environmental thinking, and digital innovation to design systems that improve everyday life and strengthen community resilience. Our work is built around long-term value rather than short-term visibility: we prioritize what can be tested, validated, deployed, and maintained for decades.

Our core technology carries a documented history — an Armenian patent (AM 2958 A), an international WIPO PCT application, and three national innovation awards (2021) — and its newest generation, the water-integration architecture, is the subject of new patent filings now in preparation.

To develop and promote technologies and programs that improve quality of life, expand access to sustainable energy and water, and grow the engineering culture of the communities we serve.

Why We Exist

Armenia and many mountain regions worldwide share the same challenges: limited access to stable energy, water stress, environmental risk, and a widening gap between urban and rural opportunity. At the same time, local talent is enormous — what it lacks is not ideas but pathways: resources, partnerships, and the discipline that turns a good idea into a working installation.

HOVAK was created to be that pathway:

  • by building practical, science-based technologies,

  • by equipping communities with tools and skills,

  • and by creating platforms that connect people, producers, and opportunities.

What We Do

🔬 Innovative Technologies & Engineering IP

We design, model, and prototype technologies in renewable energy and water systems, built for real-world conditions — including remote and resource-limited environments. We treat innovation as an engineering discipline: every concept must be testable, measurable, and adaptable to real constraints of cost, local materials, maintenance, and climate.

💧 Water Technologies & Filtration

Water access and safety are central to health and development. We work on water generation approaches and on filtration and treatment concepts focused on simplicity and durability — designed to be tested and maintained where they are installed, not in a distant laboratory.

🌱 Environmental & Social Impact

We support initiatives that reduce environmental risks and strengthen local sustainability — community-centered solutions for rural and urban settings alike, especially where small improvements create large everyday benefits.

📱 Digital Platforms & Smart Tools

Technology is not only hardware. We develop digital products that help communities and businesses connect and grow: visibility for local producers, simpler coordination and ordering, better access to information and opportunity.

🎓 Education, Creativity & Youth

Long-term progress depends on people. We run and develop STEM and robotics programs, engineering-thinking workshops, and hands-on community-readiness training — growing the practical skills and creative confidence of the generation that will inherit the infrastructure we build.

Our Projects — and Where Each One Stands

One habit defines how we communicate: every project below carries an honest status — built, piloted, in development, or concept. We would rather show a modest true picture than an impressive vague one.

1) HOVAK Energyflagship, in engineering development. The Solar Compression Power Station turns a sun-heated mountain slope into a power plant: a dark, solar-absorbing duct laid along natural terrain drives standard turbo-generator units, with a design service life of roughly a century. The technology stands at TRL 6 — prototype demonstration in a relevant environment — carries a documented patent history and three national innovation awards, and is preparing for its first pilot site.

2) HOVAK Waterflagship extension, in engineering development. The station’s water-integration architecture couples it with an existing natural reservoir to extract drinking water from the air, using the reservoir’s cold depth as a natural condenser — no fuel, no refrigeration plant, and no drawdown of the reservoir itself. New patent filings for this system are in preparation, and a dedicated public section will follow.

3) Water Filtrationprototype built and bench-tested. An applied filtration unit engineered by our team around two priorities: simplicity and durability. The next step is field testing in a real community setting.

4) Robotics & STEMfirst course delivered. Thirty students completed our first robotics course, taught by our staff physicist. We are now working to make it a recurring, funded program.

5) Community Preparednessin development. Hands-on emergency-readiness training formats that we are preparing alongside the STEM line, focused on practical skills communities can use.

6) ArMapsconcept. A tourism-tech platform for interactive cultural mapping of Armenia and Georgia — geolocation, historical context, and multimedia in service of travel, local tourism development, and cultural heritage visibility.

7) LUMAconcept. A B2B platform connecting stores, cafés, and service providers with manufacturers and suppliers — simpler ordering, better coordination, and support for local production.

8) Circular Economy: Plastic-to-Fuelearly concept. A long-term direction exploring the conversion of plastic waste into usable fuel. It stays on our roadmap honestly labeled: an idea we believe in, awaiting the resources to develop it properly.

How We Work

Our approach is implementation-driven and partner-oriented. Every project moves through the same staged pathway:

  1. Research & Concept Development — defining the problem, building the technical idea, identifying constraints.

  2. Feasibility & Validation — modeling, early tests, requirements, and risk review.

  3. Prototyping — building test units, measuring results, improving the design.

  4. Pilot Readiness — preparing a field-ready approach, documentation, and partnerships.

  5. Deployment & Scaling — pilot deployment, monitoring, iteration, and broader implementation through partners.

Each stage exists to de-risk the next — so that innovation stays measurable, and every project has a defined pathway to a real outcome.

HOVAK NGO is committed to transparent, responsible operations and long-term accountability. In practice this means:

  • responsible budgeting and resource planning,

  • full partner reporting and documentation for grant-funded and institutional programs.

We are open to joint research and development, feasibility studies and technical validation, pilot deployments and field testing, grant-based programs and institutional cooperation, and education and community initiatives.
